The Chief Executive Officer of Meridian Port Services Ltd. Mr. Mohamed Samara has been adjudged CEO of the Year for the Construction Sector at the 4th Ghana CEO SUMMIT that took place on 20th and 21st of May in Accra (Ghana). This fourth edition of the two-day Summit, which attracted more than 400 CEOs from across Africa, was organized by the Ghana CEO Network on the theme “The Futuristic Economy: Technology-Driven Future of Business and Governance for Economic Transformation”.
Reflecting on the award, Mr. Samara said. “I am deeply honored by this remarkable recognition, which should in fact go to every employee of MPS” “This award reflects MPS’ ongoing leadership and efforts of my great teams. Together, we put our best each day to build a lasting legacy for Ghana and create opportunities for our existing community and for many future generations to come.”
Technology is a core part of what we do at MPS. As a company with its sights set on the future, we have carefully noted the rapidly changing global economy and ensured that the position of Ghana is maintained in the leadership of the maritime trade through the use of technology and massive high-tech-driven investments.
In less than 40 days, the new Tema Port would begin operations. The New Port is evidence of our quest to use technology to boost the economy: for the first time in the history of Ghana and the sub region, we set up an integrated system of electronic paperless processes geared towards operating the most advanced terminal in the sub-region leveraging on technology and digitization to improve efficiency and competitiveness of the Tema Port. He added.

Mohamed Samara has been advancing Ghana’s leadership in the regional and global trade through various senior positions for 27 years.
Since becoming CEO of MPS in 2007, Mr. Mohamed Samara has led a vast growth of the business, including the much commended Tema Port Expansion Project. The company moved from being one of the container terminals to the best performing container terminal in West Africa in less than 10 years. He has advocated for environmental sustainability and a safer workplace. He is credited with spearheading the single largest private investment in Corporate Social Initiatives by improving the Tema Motorway Roundabout and the Community 3 Beach Road Junction (The only 2 road gateways connecting Tema with Accra and the rest of the Nation).
The CEO’s Network cited Mr Samara’s outstanding performance in leading one of the most innovative companies in the face of daunting challenges and the creation of economic growth whiles contributing to the economy.
MPS has found ways to enrich the economic future of the country through technology. The company has built upon its legacy while focusing on boosting its people’s talent and innovating in process and technology to deliver valuable shipping solutions. It is currently engaged in exercises to enable all port stakeholders acquaint themselves with the new state of the art technology that has been deployed in new Tema Port. The company has over the last year collaborated with stakeholders such as Customs to improve service quality, ensure efficiency and reduce revenue leakages. This is expected to ultimately increase government revenue.
