MPS Strengthens Customer Experience Drive with Launch of New PayGate App

Meridian Port Services Ltd (MPS) on Thursday, 8 October 2026, climaxed its Customer Service Week celebrations with a customer engagement forum that brought together about 100 representatives from shipping lines, trade associations, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and shipping agencies. The event formed part of the company’s observance of the global Customer Service Week theme, “We Go the Extra Mile,” and provided a platform to celebrate customers while engaging them on opportunities to further improve service delivery and enhance the customer experience.

During the forum, Chief Financial Officer Mr. Steen Larsen outlined MPS’ ongoing investments in infrastructure, equipment, and digital solutions aimed at enhancing operational performance, service reliability, and customer convenience.

Mr. Larsen underscored MPS’ ongoing commitment to strengthening operational capacity through strategic investments in infrastructure, equipment, and technology.

He explained that these initiatives have increased the terminal’s annual throughput capacity from 2.5 million TEUs to 3.0 million TEUs, supported by the deployment of 19 new handling equipment units comprising three STS cranes and sixteen eRTG cranes. With additional equipment scheduled for delivery, he noted that MPS remains focused on enhancing efficiency, reliability, and customer experience. He also emphasized that the investments support the company’s environmental sustainability agenda, with all newly acquired equipment powered by electricity.

“Our ultimate goal is to ensure that customers can conduct business with maximum convenience and efficiency. Beyond infrastructure investments, we continue to deploy digital tools that eliminate unnecessary delays, improve visibility, and provide customers with greater control over their transactions. The future of port operations is digital, and MPS is committed to leading that transformation,” Mr. Larsen stated.

The defining moment of the event was the official launch of the MPS PayGate App, a transformative digital solution designed to bring all customer transactions and interactions onto a single, integrated platform. The application reflects MPS’ commitment to leveraging technology to simplify processes, improve accessibility, and provide customers with greater convenience and control over their business activities at the terminal.

Unveiling the platform, the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Larsen, described the app as a significant step in MPS’ digital transformation journey, noting that it responds directly to customer expectations for faster, more seamless, and user-friendly services.

Participants further engaged management on challenges within the cargo clearance process, discussing practical measures that could improve efficiency across the logistics value chain in an interactive session.

Speaking on behalf of customers, the leadership of the Association of Customs House Agents Ghana, (ACHAG), represented by Philip Badu-Mensah commended MPS for its sustained investments in port infrastructure, technology, and operational excellence, while advocating stronger engagement with policy makers and other stakeholders within the port ecosystem.

“While we acknowledge and appreciate the investments MPS continues to make, it is equally important that all stakeholders engage regularly on issues affecting trade facilitation. Let us continue to present these challenges to policy makers so they fully understand the impact of their decisions on the logistics chain. Through collaboration, we can ensure that Tema Port remains the preferred first port of call in the sub-region.”

The celebration concluded with a guided tour of the terminal, providing customers with a first-hand view of ongoing operations and the systems supporting cargo handling and clearance. Participants had the opportunity to observe the modern equipment, digital platforms, and operational processes that continue to position MPS as a leading gateway for trade in the region.

Commenting on the significance of the investments and the launch of the PayGate App, Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Samara reaffirmed MPS’ commitment to delivering world-class services through continuous innovation and customer-focused solutions.

“At MPS, we view our customers as true partners in advancing the business of the port and strengthening Ghana’s position as a leading maritime hub in West Africa. Every investment we make, every innovation we deploy, and every process improvement we implement is driven by our desire to make business easier, faster, and more predictable for our customers. We are committed to going the extra mile to deliver world-class service and create value for all stakeholders.” Mr. Samara said.

The event reaffirmed MPS’ commitment to building strong customer relationships, encouraging stakeholder collaboration, and continuously investing in solutions that enhance service delivery while supporting the long-term competitiveness of Ghana’s maritime sector.
