Last Friday, November 30th, MPS handled its highest volume of 5,348 TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalent unit) in one vessel call since start of its operations in 2007. It is worthy to note that the entire volume is for Tema Port load/discharge and excluding Transhipment hence this Tema Port best-ever vessel volume is also possibly the top achievement in West and Central Africa.
The 5,348 TEUs were discharged and loaded on/off a single vessel in less than 60 Hours. The highest productivity for one of the three cranes deployed was almost 30 moves per hour, which was proudly achieved with zero incidents, resulting from the investment MPS has made in safety trainings and human resource development.
This record was achieved on MV Maersk Congo which is a Container Ship operated by Maersk Line. Her container capacity is 4,500 TEU with gross tonnage is 50,869 and deadweight is 61,614 and the length overall (LOA) is 249.121 m.
Arriving at the end of November implies that a good number of the 3,278 full TEUs that were discharged are likely to contain Christmas Goods that will cheer up the atmosphere during the festive season.
