Senior executives from Ocean Network Express (ONE) recently conducted a working visit to Meridian Port Services Ltd (MPS). The visit, which took place on Friday, September 8th, 2023, provided the ONE team with the opportunity to tour the terminal and witness the commissioning works of newly procured cranes.

Mr. Tom Hosaka, Director of Corporate & Innovation Africa, led the ONE delegation and outlined the purpose of their visit. He described MPS as a trailblazer in the industry and stated, “Ocean Network Express is committed to enhancing its services in Africa and is actively seeking to increase capacity and certainly pleased to work with such advanced terminal to facilitate this endeavour. We chose to visit MPS because we are impressed with the exceptional service levels provided during our berthing window and believe that there is tremendous potential for further collaboration”.

In response, Mr. Mohamed Samara, Chief Executive Officer of Meridian Port Services Ltd, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the key features of the terminal and MPS’s notable commercial achievements.

“MPS boasts the most advanced nautical capabilities in the sub-region, enabling direct calls to Tema for the latest generation of vessels. With a total quay length of 1,400 meters and a draft alongside of 16.9 meters, MPS can accommodate large vessels of up to 400 meters in overall length. Our vision is to establish a global trade hub that connects markets across Africa and beyond”.

Following the presentation, the ONE executives were given a tour of the terminal, during which they observed the operational activities at the quay side and received updates on the progress of the ongoing second phase of the Tema Port Expansion Project.

Mr. Curtiss Dakpogan, Chief Operating Officer of MPS, emphasized the company’s ambition to provide ample capacity and efficiency to support shipping lines’ schedule reliability, predictability and enable the timely delivery of goods to their customers. He also noted that the current facility is designed to assist shipping lines in maintaining resilience in their liner networks when facing unexpected challenges.

With continuous investments in equipment, technology, and human resource development, MPS is strategically positioning the MPS Terminal 3 as a highly advanced trade hub capable of efficiently serving the West African sub-region.
