Meridian Port Services Ltd (MPS) proudly commemorates the graduation of the 8th Cohort of the Orange Corners Ghana Program, marking a significant milestone in empowering Ghanaian entrepreneurs. Since its inception in 2019, the program has nurtured a total of 800 aspiring entrepreneurs, underscoring MPS’s dedication to driving sustainable economic growth in Ghana.
In collaboration with the Kingdom of the Netherlands and other esteemed corporate partners, Orange Corners Ghana serves as an entrepreneurial innovation hub, offering access to vital resources and expertise to accelerate the growth of young businesses. MPS’s constant support for initiatives like this reflects its firm commitment to fostering a thriving ecosystem of sustainable enterprises within the Ghanaian economy.
The recent graduation ceremony witnessed the commendable achievements of 73 youth-led businesses, representing a portion of the 227 talented entrepreneurs who received invaluable support. Notably, over half of the recipients were women, underscoring the program’s commitment to fostering gender-inclusive entrepreneurship.
Mr. Frank Ebo Brown, Head of Legal and Compliance at MPS, commended Orange Corners Ghana for its unwavering commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial talent in Ghana. He emphasized the program’s critical role in driving economic development and fostering the growth of innovative Ghanaian businesses. “MPS is dedicated to investing in future generations. We will continue to champion and support Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that have a positive impact on society at large. We envision a resilient economy driven by thriving private sector enterprises.”
H.E. Mr. Jeroen Verheul, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ghana, congratulated the cohort graduates and commended their determination to complete the program. The Ambassador highlighted the transformative potential of the Orange Corners program, emphasizing its holistic approach of mentorship, workshops, networking opportunities, and access to finance, which equip young entrepreneurs with the tools and resilience to emerge as leaders in their respective industries.
Mr. Mohamed Samara, Chief Executive Officer of MPS, emphasized the company’s commitment to community empowerment as part of the Tema Port Expansion Project. MPS remains steadfast in its support for local communities in and around Tema by offering skills training to their youth, showcasing the company’s strong dedication to sustainable social and environmental initiatives.
Mr. Samara elaborated, stating, “MPS has identified several communities including the Sakumono Fishing Community, Tema Manhean Fishing Community, Nungua Fishing Community, Kpone Fishing Community, and Prampram Fishing Community as potential beneficiaries of our Alternative Livelihood Project. This initiative aims to equip youth with skills that enable them to pursue opportunities beyond artisanal fishing.”
In addition to this initiative, and inspired by the success of the Orange Corners program, MPS extends an invitation to small businesses in Tema and the surrounding areas to apply for support. This follows the recent launch of the new Cohort, underscoring MPS’s ongoing commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth within the region.

We are excited to announce that the call for applications of the Orange Corners Ghana Acceleration Programme cohort 9 is now open!
The programme is an initiative by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is calling for applications implemented by GrowthAfrica in partnership with Fidelity Bank, Emergent Payments, Friesland Campina, Vivo Energy Ghana, Meridian Port Services (MPS), Koudjis, Peoples Pension Trust and Cargill.
What’s in it for you?

- Funding opportunity: Grant and low-interest business funding of up to 50,000 Euros

You are eligible if your business:
- Is beyond the initial product-market fit phase, and has earned commercial, recurring revenue for at least 24 months.
- Have recurring revenues equivalent to at least USD 30,000 annually.
- Have at least one co-founder working in the business full-time and exclusively.
- Have at least one active co-founder in the business aged 18-35.
- Have matured and stabilized enough to employ a minimum of 3 Full Time Employees on a permanent basis in addition to the founders.
- Your product/service is solving a clear need that can be identified as delivering on one or several SDG goals.
- Your product/service – or – business model is innovative (i.e. your approach to supply chain, production or distribution, and sales), and it provides a clear competitive advantage.
