Meridian Port Services Ltd (MPS) joined the global community in celebrating World Environment Day under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.” As part of this year’s activities, MPS doubled its tree planting efforts and introduced new species including Mangrove, Veitchia Palm, Indian Mast Tree, and Flamboyant Tree.

This expanded tree planting campaign was coordinated by Kingsley Ofori Ameyaw, QHSSE Manager, who expressed, on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of MPS, the company’s pledge to protect the environment and support communities for a sustainable future.
At the Sakumono Lagoon, CEO of MPS, Mr. Mohamed Samara, highlighted the unique benefits of Mangrove trees, describing them as ecological superheroes that produce oxygen, sequester vast amounts of CO₂, shield coastlines from erosion and storms, serve as nurseries for fish and habitats for birds, purify water, stabilize soils, and support local livelihoods and tourism.
Mr. Henry Ayikai Okine, Senior Environmental Specialist at MPS, complemented the CEO by stating that “Mangrove forests are not just trees; they are invaluable ecosystems and among the most effective nature-based solutions we have.”

Mr. Samara added, “We are planting these seedlings today for our children tomorrow. Every tree we put in the ground is an investment in clean air, stable coastlines, healthy communities, and a better planet for the next generation.”

The CEO of MPS extended gratitude to Brig. Gen. Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, Director General of GPHA, for supporting this initiative and joining the MPS team in planting a thousand Mangrove seedlings at Sakumono.
