Tema, Ghana – Meridian Port Services Ltd. (MPS) is proud to announce a remarkable achievement in its operational history. For the first time, MPS has successfully handled 1 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) within the first seven months of the year, marking a significant milestone by crossing the 1 million TEU threshold in July.
The feat was attained on the MSC Ivana. Possessing length overall of 363.57 meters and width of 45.61 meters, she arrived at the MPS Terminal 3 on 29th July 2024 and sailed on 31st July 2024.
This accomplishment is a testament to the resilience, innovation, and operational excellence that MPS has consistently demonstrated. Despite the adverse weather conditions during the storm season in West Africa and the challenges posed by fluctuations in power supply from the national grid, MPS maintained the highest productivity levels across all cranes. This record-breaking success is the result of meticulous planning, strategic execution, and a firm commitment to excellence in port operations.

The state-of-the-art setting of MPS Terminal 3 at Tema Port has played a key role in achieving this historic milestone. MPS’s success is further bolstered by the strong backing of its shareholders – Africa Global Logistics (AGL), APM Terminals, and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA). This powerful consortium has been instrumental in driving MPS’s vision of becoming a world-class port operator. Africa Global Logistics and APM Terminals bring their extensive global experience and expertise in logistics and port management, while GPHA provides invaluable local insights and support, creating a perfect synergy that propels MPS to new heights.
MPS’s commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction remains fundamental. The company continues to invest in the latest equipment and technologies, ensuring that it not only meets but exceeds the expectations of its stakeholders. The terminal’s infrastructure is designed to handle increased volumes while maintaining swift turnaround times, thus positioning MPS as a preferred port of choice for shipping lines and logistics companies.
