Meridian Port Services Limited (MPS) is helping to put smiles on the faces of many through its many Corporate Social Initiative activities. The company has this time borne the cost of surgeries for 10 patients of the Operation Smile Ghana. The cost of the surgeries valued at $6000 is to enable the 10 people to undergo surgery in the coming weeks to correct cleft anomalies.

Receiving the donation on behalf of Operation Smile Ghana, the Country Program Manager for US, Mr. Kelvin Turner accompanied by the Program Manager for Ghana, Mr. Elikem Nyavor commended MPS for the gesture.

“Without this rather simple surgery, many are sentenced to a life without hope. They cannot go about their normal lives as they are ostracized and treated differently. For children who have their whole life ahead of them, they cannot have an enjoyable and even successful education due to bullying and other social pressures.”

He added that their long term goal is to build their capacity to the point where Operation Smile Ghana is able to internally gather resources to undertake the project for as many people as need it in Ghana.

On his part, Mr. Mohamed Samara, Chief Executive Officer for MPS, said “I am proud to be associated with this noble work that Operation Smile is doing, at MPS, we are amazed with the effect this 45 minutes surgery has on the outlook of life for the patients. Therefore, I imagine that this would not be the only time that MPS supports this worthy cause, it is the beginning of a new and better partnership between Operation Smile and MPS to further enhance the lives of many Ghanaians.”

The MPS shareholders believe in sustainable development which creates a knock-on effect on people and economy with a positive impact on the environment. “We are focused on boosting staff knowledge, skills, promotion (personal growth) and direct jobs creation and we will continue to invest in the type of Corporate Social initiatives that will positively impact society at large” Mr. Samara Said.
